The Society is dedicated to the preservation of the history of Hudson (Quebec) and surrounding area. Formed in 1963, its main goal is to preserve the historical facts and features of the Hudson area. Our focus is on the people who have lived in the town of Hudson and their legacies. Our interests, however, extend to the surrounding towns (Rigaud, St.Lazare, Ste. Marthe, Vaudreuil, Dorion) and to the natural history of our region, which includes the Lake of Two Mountains on the Ottawa River. The Society has amassed archives of numerous manuscripts, articles, books, audiotapes and photographs related to the families, homes and businesses of the area. The archives are located at 541 Main Road in Hudson and are open to the public by appointment only. Archive requests can be made to the archivist via the email address hhsenquiry@gmail.com.

The Hudson Historical Society has published numerous books about local pioneer families, historical buildings, the early colonization of the area, and the histories of local businesses and services (fire, police, library, etc). A complete list of the publications is available in the library section of the website. Publications are available for purchase at May's Studio located at 459 Main Road, Hudson

Monthly meetings for members and guests are held eight times a year on the second Monday of the month (there are no meetings in December nor from June to August inclusive).  Notices of the meetings are published in the local papers the week before the meeting.  Annual dues to the Hudson Historical Society are $15.00 for a single membership and $25.00 for a family membership. All donations to the Society, whether they be monetary or artifacts, are tax-deductible.

The Society invites those researching their family histories or a local topic, as well as historians and scientists to make presentations at the meetings. Handouts as well as recordings and PowerPoint presentations are kept in the archives with the permission of the authors.

The Hudson Historical Museum and Tourist Information Centre located at 541 Main Rd. opened its doors on August 1st 2009. By means of old photos, artifacts, video screenings and installations, the museum presents a lively overview of our Town’s history. Our collection makes this small museum an integral addition to this amazing community.

Note that the location also functions as a tourist information centre where visitors are able to find directions to our wonderful hiking trails, Sandy Beach, Jack Layton Park, the Greenwood Centre for Living History and other interesting local attractions.
