Marcellin Farand dit Vivarais - Remembered

Did you ever wonder where the Vivery River received its name? It was not named after a famous restaurant (sorry, Christos and Nick), but after one of the early European settlers in the area, Marcellin Farand dit Vivarais. He dammed the river, and built a mill beside it in the 18th century.
If you would like to learn more about him, or the remnants of the mill still visible along the river, please join the Hudson Historical Society on Monday, January 11, at 7:30 PM. We are meeting at St. James Church Hall, with Maben Poirier and Pat McCaffrey presenting this interesting bit of our very local history to us.
There will also be books available, including the latest "Steam, Fire, and Ice" discussing Hudson industries, and the history of St-Thomas parish.
We look forward to seeing you there.
